The Monique Leclercq Foundation is an entity with philanthropic purposes located in São Domingos do Prata, in the countryside of Minas Gerais, a small municipality, with a large territorial extension and many rural communities, with approximately 18,000 inhabitants.

Established in 1998, the organization continued the assistance work already carried out by the São Domingos de Gusmão Social Works. The name of the Foundation honors the Dominican sister Monique Jeanne Marie Joseph Leclercq, a Frenchwoman who has been in Brazil since 1951, and in São Domingos do Prata, since 1968, a volunteer at the Social Works and at the Foundation, now 102 years old.
A Little Bit of Our History
Sister Monique
Monique Jeanne Marie Joseph Leclercq arrived in Brazil in 1951, sent by the French superiors to teach in schools of the Congregation in Brazil. After passing through some cities, he arrived in São Domingos do Prata/MG in 1968 and felt at home. She has a life dedicated to the development and autonomy of rural communities.

During the years of acting on behalf of the most needy, Sister Mônica taught courses, leveraged sanitation campaigns, collaborated with the foundation of the Feira do Produtor (Producer's Fair) and gave a new dimension to Social Works, contributing immensely to the physical, cultural and social growth of the municipality.
The Monique Leclercq Foundation serves hundreds of children, adolescents and young people in situations of social vulnerability. Under the motto “Educar para Crescer” (Educate to Grow), the organization promotes various activities and projects, such as agricultural practices, music, dance, sports, theater, school and food tutoring, in addition to the "Adolescente Aprendiz" (Adolescent Apprentice) project and others.

The social work carried out by the Monique Leclercq Foundation goes beyond the borders of the municipality and is nationally recognized as a great example of citizenship and social justice. The foundation also promotes environmental development in the city, through tree planting actions.

Mechanics and Electrics Course
The Monique Leclercq Foundation is going through the pandemic with many reflections and a close look at the needs of the direct target audience and, consequently, their families. Many activities could not be carried out in person and were adapted to the online modality, such as the dance workshop, mechanics and electrical course and others. The Foundation continued with the Mãos & Arte Store, a space that promotes and sells products from the entity and 52 other mini producers, artisans and greengrocers, with special attention to partners (suppliers and customers). It also continued with activities on the farms, at the Sustainable School Horta and with the Adolescent Apprentice project that works in open spaces, without any agglomeration and within the protocols required in the municipality. It maintained the specific guidelines regarding the first job and directed several former clients/apprentices and other people to the job market.

The Monique Leclercq Foundation in the Pandemic
The Foundation adapted to government measures, such as reducing the workload and temporarily suspending the work of some monitors, but managed to keep the entire work team, without any dismissal.
For the return to face-to-face activities, the Foundation made adaptations to the entity's physical spaces, such as installing more washbasins, renovating the court and expanding its roof, renovating the library and toy library, expanding the paving of Sítio São Martinho, among others, in addition to preparing the team for a quality reception. It hired some professionals to enhance the services. The return is happening in accordance with municipal protocols and the Foundation's awareness of offering maximum security for everyone involved.
May these difficult times lead us to a new path and a new look at life and the role of solidarity in our daily experiences.

Testimonials

Leandro Apolinário Severiano Domingues
Former Foundation Attendee
There are several ways to show our gratitude to the people who are part of our lives. With that in mind, I would like to thank, from the bottom of my heart, the Monique Leclercq Foundation team, especially the management, for making me believe that it is possible to dream and conquer. I didn't imagine 10 years ago that I would be this person today, full of dreams and achievements, especially having won my CNH at 18. You, on the other hand, have always believed in me in a very motivating way and putting enormous trust in me, taking me out of mistakes and wrong paths. So I'm grateful for everything they've done and are doing for me. I'm always willing to help and I'm available to repay everything you've done for me on this journey of conquests. Every achievement of mine, the Foundation has a big part of it.

Thanks for believing in me.
Ana Flávia de Souza Simão
Former Attended and Former Apprentice of the Foundation
My name is Ana Flávia, I am 22 years old and I am a former employee and former apprentice at the Monique Leclercq Foundation. I started at the Foundation when I was 7 years old and at 17 I became a young apprentice. I had a lot of cool experiences there. I explored some workshops like crafts, games, dance, computers and even a little music. I won several certificates while at the Foundation that added a lot to my life. Soon after I was 17 years old I participated in the Adolescent Apprentice Project where we are prepared for the job market, where excellent employees help us so that we can become competent and responsible professionals. Today, with the Foundation's help, I have a job and I know how to appreciate the little things. The Monique Leclercq Foundation has made history for a large part of my life and I am very grateful for all of that.
Danilo Augusto dos Santos Crepaldi
Former Foundation Attendee
My name is Danilo Augusto dos Santos Crepaldi, I am 25 years old, and I am a former student of the Monique Leclercq Foundation.

My story with the Foundation began when I was 9 (nine) years old. And because my parents work outside the home, it was an option for me and my brother Dailon to have a quiet and reliable place to be during the hours my parents weren't home.

I stayed at the entity, as a student, for 7 (seven) years, that is, until I was 16 years old. During that time, I attended several workshops, such as crafts, music, computing, dance, cooking, tutoring, courses, college entrance preparation workshop, and others, which provided me with very special moments and incredible learning. I learned to have responsibility and commitment to whatever I do, to be a more empathetic human being and concerned with society. One of the most important things I take to this day are the people I met, the friends I made, true people.

When I was 16 years old, I was approved in the technical course of Administration, where it was a little difficult to reconcile high school, technical and foundation, so I had to leave. Nowadays I have a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, I work at the JM Accounting office, which is a partner and provides services to the Foundation.
I did not stop being a friend and partner of the Foundation, and after a few years I returned to participate in a workshop, the Ultimate Frisbee, a sport that won me over, reconnected me and provided unforgettable moments.

Anyway, I am very grateful for everything I have lived and learned while working in this institution. I can say that today I am a much better human being, thanks to the teachings and care provided by everyone. Gratitude.
Adriana Aparecida Fernandes
Employee and former employee of the Foundation
My name is Adriana Aparecida Fernandes and I'm going to talk a little about myself and how the Monique Leclercq Foundation is part of my life.

Well, actually, the Foundation has been part of my life since I was born, because my father was an employee, now retired, but he dedicated several years to work for the Foundation.

As I said, my name is Adriana Aparecida Fernandes, I am a married mother of 3 children and I have been an employee of the Foundation for 4 years. As a child I was a student at the Foundation and I created a very good bond and later, as an adult, I had the opportunity to return to the Foundation. I was selected, along with other women, by the City Hall to fit in vacancies in the entities of our city and so I was able to return to the Foundation. I had the privilege of choosing to work there.

The Foundation has been doing beautiful work for over 20 years in our community. My 3 children study there. And my oldest son is currently studying Integrated Food Technician at the Federal Institute of Rio Pomba, which is also a partner of the Foundation. I am very proud to work at the Foundation, because the work we do there is an example in our city.

I am a former student, mother of students and employee. The Foundation does wonderful work with children, young people and even adults, as it has night workshops for those who cannot attend during the day.

The Foundation is a great example for the entire Pratiana community.
Kayllany Nonato
Foundation Apprentice
I started as an apprentice on February 8, 2021. I would like to show my interest in the Adolescent Apprentice project. I am very grateful for the opportunity, because not everyone has that chance. I have the will to learn, I have the willingness and desire to contribute to this project that I admire. Being an apprentice is a great opportunity for us young people to acquire knowledge and experiences so that in the future we have good opportunities and can show all the knowledge we have acquired with the Project. I will do my best to make everyone happy with my performance.
Adriana Cotote Moreira
Nutritionist-monitor of nutrition and quality of life workshops
As a citizen and volunteer, I have always followed the work of the Monique Leclercq Foundation in São Domingos do Prata.

In addition to a lot of respect and charisma, the Foundation has a lot of credibility with the community. It develops a work of great commitment and robustness with the continuity of many years with the women, children and young people of Pratians and the region. I am in love with this institution!

With more than 20 years of experience in Nutrition, this year I was given the opportunity to further strengthen my bond with the institution. A proposal that meets the vision of working from home and aligned with my life purpose: to develop Nutrition actions aimed at quality of life in an integral perspective, working on concepts of Integral Health, holism, positive psychology and studies of human behavior. with children, young people, workers and families in the community.

Our idea is to nourish consciousness, beyond the body. Developing the possibilities of nutrition in our lives with a sense of autonomy, self-care, responsibility, lightness and results. I have no words to describe my pride and thank you for the opportunity to be part of this team!
